How It Became Hill Faerie
What can I say. I have always loved the mythical and magical....my head tends to go there by default. Often I have wondered, yes, hoped that faery folk were real, and perhaps, just maybe could I be one of them? Childhood found me often wondering if I could seriously be something magical, I am after all, a very tiny person.
We live on that pretty hill, Briarhill. And yes, I have on more than one occasion wondered if some faeries from and ancient and far away place, could ever possibly visit us.....roam our misty hill. Hopeful.
There is a part of me that is securely grounded to the earth. Practical. Mostly grown up. Able to make decisions and get work done. I pay my bills on time.
So, I had been making jewelry, really pretty stuff with raw copper and gemstones, and trying to figure out how to sell it....we (my husband Scott and I) were at a 2 day craft show (October) about 2.5 hours north of us. I did my homework, thought this show was a good spot for me, paid my entry fee, gas, and two nights in a hotel. Food. The show was a bust. I sold one necklace and we were completely frozen for two days. Took us another two to thaw out....lost money.
I am the sort of person who does not give into defeat easily. There had to be something redeeming about those two days.....pondering. I remember the woman with the booth where she made things out of upcycled wool sweaters...interesting. Why not give it a try?
That's where the faeries came in. They popped into my head quite without warning and wouldn't leave me alone....what kind of coat would a faery wear? My imagination has been working overtime since - didn't think a grown up could have so much fun...it must be an inner child thing. I love Hill Faerie, and all the mythical, magical, fanciful whoop tee doo it brings me. First is was a green coat, then gray and blue, purple....and things keep going...mighty thinking hats, magic faery bags...I have more ideas in my head than I have time for making....
